Say thank you to nurses and midwives with DAISY Award
Kettering General Hospital is supporting local people who want to say a special thank you to nurses and midwives who have given them extraordinarily care.
The Trust is taking part in the DAISY Award – an international recognition programme that that honours and celebrates the skilful and compassionate care that many nurses and midwives provide every day.
Kettering General Hospital’s Deputy Director of Nursing and Quality, Diane Postle, who is supporting the new initiative, said: “We are excited to announce that KGH is introducing the DAISY Award from October 1 to allow patients, family and carers the opportunity to recognise our extraordinary nurses and midwives.
“Every year we receive many private thank you messages from patients and their families and this is very much appreciated.
“But by taking part in the DAISY Awards we are also enabling local people to take that extra step and say thank you in an internationally recognised way.”
Over 3,900 healthcare facilities and schools of nursing across the world have committed to honoring their nurses with The DAISY Award.
The award was first established in the USA in 1999 by the family of J Patrick Barnes following his death from complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura (ITP) at the age of 33.
This led to the DAISY Foundation being founded by his family because they felt compelled to say ‘thank you’ to those who cared for him in a very public way.
