A midwife at Kettering General Hospital has received a DAISY Award for the outstanding care she has provided.
Vikki Bishop was nominated by a patient for the way in which she supported her having been designated a high-risk patient due to previous treatment.
In her nomination she said: “My first cervical scan with Vikki was the most relaxing, comforting experience I have ever experienced within the NHS. Not only is she kind, compassionate and supportive, she takes her time to explain, answer questions, and she even showed me around the building when I was lost.
“She made me laugh even when I was crying with fear at the first appointment. And I was strangely excited for my second cervical scan with her. She meets all the criteria of the standards of nursing… and then some.
“Some things cannot be taught at university; some things are natural within someone, and Vikki has that. I left my second cervical scan relieved, reassured, and supported in my ongoing high-risk pregnancy. I will forever praise KGH and especially Vikki for this treatment.”
DAISY Awards recognise KGH colleagues who have gone above and beyond what is normally expected to support their patients.
Since the scheme was launched at Kettering General Hospital in October 2020 more than 300 KGH patients, family members and carers, have nominated nurses and midwives for the award and 32 have received it.
The award was presented to Vikki by Director of Midwifery Mara Tonks, and included a certificate, a DAISY pin badge, and a “Healer’s Touch” sculpture.
Mara said: “Vikki exemplifies the kind of personalised care we aim to deliver at KGH and her nomination demonstrates just how much of an impact reassurance and support has on a person.
“I was very proud to present her with a well-deserved DAISY Award.”
