Today we were pleased to host the official opening of our temporary ward block – The Sir Thomas Moore Ward, located in Car Park A.

The need for this ward has been driven by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic resulting in a rearranging of services at the hospital. The ward will provide a short stay facility for medically stable patients.

The Ophthalmology team at Kettering General Hospital has won a national award for its flexibility and unstinting dedication to patients during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The team – which has 54 staff – has won a national Cavell Star Award after being nominated by Matron for Surgical Services, Arnold Aguilar.

He nominated them for the way for the way in which they readily agreed to be redeployed to front line services like intensive care, infection control and other wards to support the hospital’s response against coronavirus.

Kettering General Hospital is using a digital transformation programme to help it to improve patient safety during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Trust began its transformation work in 2018 and has the ambition of becoming the most digital hospital in England.

In 2019 it successfully brought in hand-held digital devices which enable doctors and nurses to record patient observations and spot early signs of deterioration (a system called Vitals).

It has also introduced a secure text and picture messaging system called CareFlow Connect, which enables staff to perform electronic patient handovers and better co-ordinate patient care.

Today we took delivery of nearly 60 sets of scrubs courtesy of Scrubs Up For Northants NHS. These were delivered by Catriona and Jakki, Area Co-ordinators from the group.

Kettering General Hospital’s Respiratory Service has been shortlisted for the 2020 Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Excellence in Patient Care Awards.
