Former organ donation chair honoured for her amazing work
The former Chairman of Kettering General Hospital’s Organ and Tissue Donation Committee has received an award as a thank you for leading work which has revitalised it.
Shirley Newman joined as the committee’s chair in 2019 and over the next three years worked enthusiastically to develop its important awareness role both within the hospital and in the community.
Today (Thursday, February 23) the hospital’s current committee – including Chair Nicola Lee, Deputy Medical Director, Gomathi Margabanthu, Clinical Lead, Dr Pawan Kumar, and Specialist Nurses George Thundiyl Joseph, and Christine Medley – presented her with an award in recognition of her work.

County hospital patients supported 24 organ donations last year
Nine county hospital patients who donated their organs after death have helped to save or transform 24 lives following transplant surgeries.
Kettering and Northampton general hospitals have released the figures to highlight the importance of donation and suggest all adults make their wishes known to their families on their view on donation.
Six Northampton General Hospital patients supported 17 organ donations during the calendar year 2022. And at Kettering General Hospital three patients supported seven donations.

A chance to learn hints and tips about managing your emotional and mental wellbeing will be available at an event arranged by Kettering General Hospital’s Public Governors.
