Today is the start of 16 Days of Action against Domestic Violence. This is an important issue that affects many people across the country and in our workplace.

-
16% of men are affected by domestic violence during their adult lifetime
-
Domestic abuse services had a 60% increase in contacts during lockdown
-
Homicides rose from two women every four days to five per week during lockdown
Domestic Abuse is any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive or threatening behaviour, violence or abuse.
This can encompass, but is not limited to, the following types of abuse:
-
Coercive Control (this is a pattern of intimidation, degradation, isolation and control)
-
Psychological and/or emotional
-
Physical and/or Sexual abuse
-
Financial abuse or economic abuse
-
Harassment and Stalking
-
Online/digital abuse
Domestic Abuse can affect ANYONE, any age, gender, sexuality. It is not just partner abuse but can be from family members; care givers and carer’s.
Domestic abuse does not stop once a relationship end. Separation is a high risk factor and should be considered when offering support and advice to staff.
At KGH we are supporting this initiative with our #CloserThanYouThink campaign.
We have dedicated resources and signposting to support our staff that may be experiencing domestic abuse. There are packs and guides for managers to help offer support to their staff.
Over the next 16 days, we will be posting information on our social media channels about the different forms of domestic abuse, how this impacts different people and where to find help.
Members of #TeamKGH have recorded a short video to show their support.
