Family History Assessment
If you are deemed as perhaps having a higher risk of developing a breast cancer due to your family history, we will provide you with a questionnaire to complete and take to your GP. Your GP will then need to refer you on to the Genetic Assessment Team. The Genetics team calculate your risk of developing breast cancer, using the information you have provided by looking at your individual genetic factors.
If your risk is calculated as being moderate or high, the genetic team will contact your GP and/or us with instructions regarding increased screening (maybe a yearly mammogram or starting mammographic surveillance earlier than usual, perhaps from the age of 40).
If you are concerned about your risk of developing breast cancer, you can find more information on the Breast Cancer Now* website.
