Armed Forces Covenant

In 2019, UHN Group Chairman Alan Burns, proudly signed the Armed Forces Covenant on behalf of Kettering General Hospital.

The Armed Forces covenant is a pledge that together we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives. It shows that we recognise and respect any veteran who has given their time to this country and that we let them know they are incredibly valued by our hospital.

By signing the covenant the Trust joined some 3,730 organisations in the UK. Playing an active role in this covenant is important to our local community as we are able to signpost to local services which are available veterans, their families and carers, staff and current serving members of the armed forces. There are services that can offer home visits, handy man assistance, funding for mobility scooters, hearing aids, respite care, admiral nurses and access to mental health services for those who may be adversely affected from their time in service to name just a few. Alongside this, the trust proactive in identifying and promoting vacancies to members of the armed forces who are soon to be leaving their posts, as they bring with them a huge range of skills and knowledge that would benefit our organisation and patients.

The Armed Forces Covenant Pledge

"Those who serve in the Armed Forces, whether Regular or Reserve, those who have served in the past, and their families, should face no disadvantage compared to other citizens in the provision of public and commercial services. Special consideration is appropriate in some cases, especially for those who have given most, such as the injured and the bereaved"
